My first blog
I guess it's about time I start blogging. After all, we have had this page set up for the last month at least for me to do my blog. When you start something new, you always want to do it right the first time you do it. The problem is when it finally happens you're never really prepared because it's something new. Take writing this blog. There were a couple of times I wanted to start this, for example on New Year's Day, and make some profound statement about starting fresh at the beginning of the year. Now it's nearly half way through the month of January and I have nothing profound to say. The most important fact about starting something new is that you do it. Proficiency come with practice. Hopefully 6 months from now I will be blogging like an expert, but for now, I'll just start it.
In the bigger picture that is also how our Christian walk is. There are a lot of things we want to do as a Christian and we are afraid to do them because we are afraid we will fall on our faces if we try. The fact is we probably will fall on our faces, but then we get back up, learn from our mistakes and keep doing it. After time and experience, we slowly are able, by the grace of God, to do exactly what our hearts' desire was in the first place. It took me a long time to get up the courage to preach my first sermon (and it was pretty awful). Now I'm preparing a new sermon each week and with each week, the Lord is giving me the confidence to preach like I had the desire to do years before.
The Lord can help you do new things as well. Maybe it's teaching a Bible class. Maybe its telling a friend about Jesus. You'll never do anything until you take that first step. Sure, you may mess it up the first time, but the Lord will use even your failures to glorify Him when you are obedient to His will. In the end you will gain confidence and experience and the next time you teach or talk to a friend about Jesus won't be the first time anymore.
